The Committee for Implementation of the Recommendations on Rakhine State organized its 20th coordination meeting at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
It was attended by Union Minister Dr Win Myat Aye, in his capacity as the committee chairman, Deputy Minister for State Counsellor Office and Vice Chairman of the committee U Khin Maung Tin, Deputy Minister for Border Affairs and Secretary of the committee Maj-Gen Than Htut, and committee members.
At the meeting, the Union Minister explained the committee’s works for peace and development of Rakhine State, the formation of Advisory Commission on Rakhine State chaired by Dr Kofi Annan to identify the root causes of conflicts and the 88 recommendations of this commission, and the 48 recommendations of Investigation Commission led by Vice President U Myint Swe.
The Committee for Implementation of Recommendations on Rakhine State was formed on 12 September 2017 to implement the recommendations of two commissions in coordination with respective Hluttaw, Rakhine State government, relevant ministries, NGOs, partner organizations, partner countries, UN agencies and ASEAN member countries, with releasing a report in every four months each year, while it is focusing on social harmony and socioeconomic development in Rakhine State.
The committee is coordinating with the working groups of the Union Enterprise for Humanitarian Assistance, Resettlement and Development in Rakhine (UEHRD) to foster the works of committee.
The strategic plans of the committees are aimed to solve development crisis, human rights crisis and security crisis which are major obstacles to peace and development in Rakhine State. The committee is taking priorities on the issues of citizen identification, the right to travel, IDP issues, education and health in line with the existing laws.
At the 20th coordination meeting, the committee members also made discussions and recommended on the draft strategic plan.—MNA
