THE Union Attorney-General’s Office introduced a guidebook for drafting bills at the Kempinski Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
The book is aimed for government agencies in drawing the respective bills, officials from UAGO who give recommendations on the bills and Hluttaw representatives who are involving in adopting the draft laws.
At the launching ceremony, Union Attorney-General U Tun Tun Oo said the task of bill drafting is now undertaken by the Union-level organizations and the Hluttaw representatives as per the 2008 Constitution, although it was carried out by the UAGO in accordance with the attorney-general laws of 1988 and 2001.Under the Union Attorney-General law 2010, the office becomes responsible for only giving legal advice on the bills sent by the Union-level bodies.
With the assistance of UNDP, creating the new book was started in 2016, and it explains procedures in drafting legal documents with examples and exemplifications.
The books will be distributed to the members of Pyithu Hluttaw and Pyiduangsu Hluttaw bill committees, Regions/States bill committee, Union-level departments, Self-Administered Division or Self-Administered Zones, legal offices and senior legal officers of Regions/States.
