The Myanmar delegation led by the State Counsellor and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Daw Aung San Suu Kyi left Nay Pyi Taw for The Hague, the Netherlands, by a special flight yesterday morning to contest the case filed by Gambia at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).


The oral proceedings on the Gambia’s report for the indication of provisional measures will take place at the ICJ on 10, 11 and 12 December 2019, respectively. The State Counsellor, in her capacity as the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs will contest this case to defend the national interest of Myanmar at the Court.

The State Counsellor and her delegation were seen off at the Nay Pyi Taw international Airport by Union Minister U Min Thu, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman Dr Myo Aung and wife, Chief of Myanmar Police Force Police Lt-Gen Aung Win Oo, Ambassador of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Myanmar Mr Wouter Jurgens and officials.


Her entourage includes Union Minister for the Office of State Counsellor U Kyaw Tint Swe , Union Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Office of Union Attorney-General.


The State Counsellor and party arrived in Bangkok, Thailand, at 10:15 am local time. They were welcomed by Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand U Myo Myint Than and wife Daw San San Maw, Military Attaché (Army, Navy, Air) Brigadier General Khin Zaw, and officials from the Myanmar embassy and the military attaché office at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport.—MNA
