The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) donated 60 school buses to the Ministry of Education as part of an educational assistance programme yesterday.

Firstly, Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi said KOICA donated 40 school buses on June 2016 for the first time, which were used for 12 schools in Nay Pyi Taw Council’s Zabuthiri and Dekkhinathiri townships.

As part of the Improvement in Access to Education through Provision of School Buses in Myanmar programme, KOICA will be providing assistance from 2019 to 2021. He said in addition to donating the school buses, they will be managing the drivers through training and education programmes. He said KOICA will hold three training programmes for its 100 drivers from 2020 to 2021.

Next, ROK Ambassador Mr Lee Sang-hwa explained the purpose of the donation and KOICA Myanmar Office’s Chief Representative Ms Lee Youn Soo handed over the documents for the donation to the Basic Education Department Director-General U Ko Lay Win.

Present at the ceremony were Union Minister for Transportation and Communications U Thant Sin Maung, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman Dr Myo Aung, the Chairman of the Amyotha Hluttaw Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, the Chairman of the Pyithu Hluttaw International Relations Committee, directors-general and officials, teachers and students. — MNA (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
