Senior Officials Meeting on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (SOMRDPE) yesterday held a preliminary meeting via videoconferencing to prepare for upcoming ASEAN Ministers Meeting on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication (AMRDPE) to discuss COVID-19 response.

During the virtual meeting, Department of Rural Development Director-General U Khant Zaw, in his capacity as SOMRDPE rotating Chairperson, said that SOMRDPE’s activities on rural development and poverty eradication are being affected by COVID-19 pandemic. He called on the SOMRDPE to effectively and timely collaborate on COVID-19 response and poverty eradication. He pledged that Myanmar will continue its collaboration with ASEAN member countries in those matters.

ASEAN Secretariat Assistant Director Dr Sita Sumrit and other senior officials from ASEAN member countries made discussions and suggestions for the special meeting of AMRDPE on COVID-19 response.
Officials from ASEAN Secretariat and senior officials of SOMRDPE participated in the virtual preliminary meeting.
