128 traffic accidents reported in Paung Township last year

A total of 128 traffic accidents Paung Township, Mon State have led to the loss of 53 lives in 2018, according to a source from the township police force.

 

The number of fatalities and injuries due to traffic accidents has increased significantly in 2018 compared with the previous year. The road accidents in Paung Township left 53 dead and 236 injured in 2018. In connection with the cases, altogether 132 people—124 men and 8 women—have been arrested. The estimated loss of property due to traffic accidents was valued at over Ks. 27 million.

 

Reckless driving, over-speeding, defective vehicles, and inclement weather were identified as the main causes of accidents, said Police Major Aye Swe, the head of the township police force.—Zin Myo Thu
