Mong Khet 5 February
The 27th Anniverasry Lahu new year festival was convened at a stadium, Mong Khet, Shan State at 10 am on 4 February.
Triangle Region Command Commander Maj-Gen Khin Hlaing, Hluttaw Representative U Ar Ko, Patron of Lahu Literature and Culture Committee U Dar Ye La Sam and Chairman U Win Zarni Mwe cut a ceremonial ribbon to open the event.
At the Shan national new year festival, youths washed the hands of senior citizens in a hand-washing ritual of Lahu and gave the gifts - Lahu traditional bags.
Maj-Gen Khin Hlaing delivered an opening remark and donated K 300,000 to Lahu Literature and Cultural Committee.
The Joint-Secretary of Lahu literature and cultural committee read a new year message sent by Minister of Lahu Ethnic Affairs U Yaw Thet and then handed over to Lahu literature and cultural committee K 300,000 offered by the Minister of Lahu Ethnic Affairs.
The officials awarded the certificates of honor and gifts to the Lahu ethnic youths, outstanding students in 2017-2018 and 2017-2018 Academic Year and posed a documentary group photo with the attendees.The Lahu youths performed with Lahu traditional dancing and others entertainments.
Present on the occasion were totaling about 1,500 people including high ranking officers from military force, Mong Khet Township Administrator U Thet Lwin, Police Major of Mong Khet Township Police Force Kyaw Naing and departmental personnel, invited guests and others. –Than Tun Aye (IPRD)
