A TOTAL of 58,204 local and foreign visitors visited the Myanansankyaw Golden Palace and Shwenandaw Monastery (Shwekyaunggyi) in Mandalay until February, according to the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Mandalay Branch).
Both sites are over 165 years old and have significant historic structures that attract researchers studying Myanmar’s ancient craftsmanship and visitors seeking relaxation.
“Visitors are amazed by the traditional Myanmar craftsmanship and the palace’s grand halls. The palace grounds with their beautiful and clean lawns are popular for photography and relaxation. Weekends and holidays see a higher number of visitors. Many also take photos at Shwenandaw Monastery, which features intricate historical designs,” said an official from the department.
According to records, 4,993 international visitors and 53,211 domestic visitors visited these historic sites. Among them, 14,145 people explored Myanansankyaw Golden Palace, while 39,066 visited Shwenandaw Monastery.
