A TOTAL of 58,204 lo­cal and foreign visi­tors visited the Myan­ansankyaw Golden Palace and Shwenandaw Monastery (Shwekyaunggyi) in Mandalay until February, according to the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Man­dalay Branch).

 

Both sites are over 165 years old and have significant historic structures that attract researchers studying Myan­mar’s ancient craftsmanship and visitors seeking relaxation.

 

“Visitors are amazed by the traditional Myanmar crafts­manship and the palace’s grand halls. The palace grounds with their beautiful and clean lawns are popular for photography and relaxation. Weekends and holidays see a higher number of visitors. Many also take pho­tos at Shwenandaw Monastery, which features intricate histor­ical designs,” said an official from the department.

 

According to records, 4,993 international visitors and 53,211 domestic visitors visited these historic sites. Among them, 14,145 people ex­plored Myanansankyaw Gold­en Palace, while 39,066 visited Shwenandaw Monastery.

 

Entrance fees for local vis­itors are set at K500 per adult, with free entry for children and students. The same fee applies to Shwenandaw Mon­astery. Foreign tourists must pay a Mandalay Zone entry fee of K15,000, which grants access to Myanansankyaw Golden Pal­ace, Shwenandaw Monastery and Bargaya Monastery in Amarapura. — Min Htet Aung (Mdy Sub-Printing House)/KZL
