The Anti-Corruption Commission presented reference documents and publications on “integrity and ethics” to the Shan State Chief Minister and other top officials yesterday morning at the meeting hall of the Shan State government.

The reference publications are for the Shan State government, the Shan State Hluttaw, judicial officials, the officials in Self-Administered Zones in Shan State and libraries.

Shan State Chief Minister Dr Lin Htut, Shan State Chief Justice U Kywe Kywe, Shan State Hluttaw Deputy Speaker U Sao Aung Myat, ministers and top officials of the Shan State government, officials from Pa-O and Danu Self-Administered Zones, the Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman U Aung Kyi, and other relevant officials attended the ceremony.

During the ceremony, the Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman U Aung Kyi said that the commission organized workshops on integrity in regions and states as well as opened two “Youth Integrity” camps.

But, in 2020, the workshops on integrity could not be held because of the COVID-19 crisis, that’s why the reference books on “integrity and ethics” are given to all the states and regions, according to the Commission Chairman U Aung Kyi.

“In 20th century, Democracy, Fascism and Communism competed for superiority. But in the 21st century, the majority of the people became to believe in democracy. In these days, people who have the power need to give high priority to working for the welfare of the general public rather than working only for the welfare of individual persons and own organizations. The world’s famous political scientists like Fukuyama talked about that idea, so the officials, by holding true belief and true value, need to have integrity and be ethical in working in their relevant areas or departments for the welfare of the general public. We provided the reference books so that the officials can bravely combat corruption,” said the Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman U Aung Kyi.

Afterwards, Professor Dr Aung Tun Thet’s video clip “Corruption and Immorality” was shown.

Next, the Anti-Corruption Commission chairman handed over 199 copies of the reference books to the Shan State Chief Minister Dr Lin Htut, Shan State Chief Justice U Kywe Kywe, Shan State Hluttaw Deputy Speaker U Sao Aung Myat and officials from the Pa-O and Danu Self-Administered Zones.

After that, the Shan State Chief Minister delivered a speech by saying that the Union government is working for the development of the entire nation during this democratic transition period; the Union Government, in collaboration with civil servants and the citizens, is working to make Myanmar a corruption-free society.

The Shan State Chief Minister also highlighted the President’s remark made on 30 March, 2018, which said officials must increase intensity in combatting the corruption, and legal actions must be taken against the offenders in accordance with the laws.

The Shan State Chief Minister pledged that the Shan State will cooperate with all stakeholders in tackling corruption, and then he expressed thanks to the Anti-Corruption Commission for providing the reference books.
