Bago Region Chief Minister U Win Thein received a Japanese delegation led by Mr Akira Nishimura from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport at his office this morning.

At the meeting, Mr Akira Nishimura disclosed that they were here to draw the master plan which includes the improvement of upper reaches of Bago river and lower reaches of Sittoung river, maintenance and prevention of those rivers in order to alleviate the impact caused by disasters.

The Bago Region Chief Minister, on his part, said that priority should be given to construction of embankments and diversion weirs and set up of a water control system to prevent high tide, as Bago river and Sittoung river are directly linked to the sea.—Tin Soe (Bago)
