DEPUTY Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Than Swe received Dr Md Monwar Hossain, Ambas­sador Extraordinary and Plenipo­tentiary of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, yesterday morning at the Ministry of For­eign Affair in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

The Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar expressed his appreciation to Bangladesh for providing humanitarian assis­tance and sending medical teams to Myanmar in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. Both sides discussed working closely in the rescue and relief efforts of the victims of the earthquake. They exchanged views on ways to further strengthen bilateral ties, including fostering closer economic cooperation, and on potential initiatives to promote trade and investment between the two countries.

 

Moreover, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar received Ms Noriko Takagi, Representa­tive of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UN­HCR) to Myanmar, yesterday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

They discussed matters re­lated to supporting the people affected by the earthquake in Myanmar.

 

In addition, Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for For­eign Affairs U Than Swe received representatives from Humedica and International Medical Corps, INGOs, yesterday afternoon at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

They discussed matters re­lated to supporting the people affected by the earthquake in My­anmar, particularly in the area of medical services. Also present at the meeting were senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Af­fairs. — MNA
