Bricks are selling well in Kabargyi Village, Seikpyu Township, Magway Region, though the local people are selling them at slightly higher prices.
“Most residents of Kabargyi Village, Seikpyu Township, are widely engaged in producing handmade bricks and selling them during winter and summer. Mud, clay and sand are mixed and then placed in the sun for three days after being shaped into bricks with moulds. The bricks are then placed in kilns with plenty of firewood for three days. If the fire is too hot or not hot enough, the quality of the handmade bricks will be poor,” stated a local handmade brick manufacturer.
A brick kiln is estimated to produce some 400,000 bricks per season, according to a brick maker. Handmade brick enterprises can earn a high income and create job opportunities for the locals. The bricks are typically used in construction projects and for building high-rise apartments. Handmade bricks are selling for K68 each at brick kilns. Currently, these bricks are being sold for K70 each because of the scarcity of mud, clay and firewood. The price of the bricks may vary depending on the delivery location, which affects labour and transportation charges.
This year, bricks are in demand in Seikpyu Township and the Saw and Kanpetlet townships, according to the local handmade brick maker.—Soe Lin Naing (IPRD) (Translated by Hay Mar)
