An eight-story building has collapsed in Turkey's largest city of Istanbul, killing two people. Rescue operations are continuing in the cold for residents believed to be trapped under the rubble.

 

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon.

Footage from security cameras shows white dust rising from the wreckage and people fleeing the scene after the building suddenly crumbled down.

 

Istanbul officials say six people were injured, and four others are calling for help from under the rubble.

 

The metropolitan government says 43 people in 14 households are registered as residents of the building.

It is still unclear how many people were there at the time of the collapse. There is a report that a small factory was operating in the building.

 

City officials say the cause of the collapse hasn't been determined yet. It says the building was originally a five-story structure and that an additional three floors were illegally built on the top of it afterwards.
