The cultural heritage preservation team from China has conducted inspection over ancient buildings damaged by the Mandalay earthquake in Mandalay Region, according to the Chinese Embassy to Myanmar.
The Chinese team inspected and evaluated quake-affected ancient buildings in Mandalay and Sagaing regions from 10 to 20 June.
Officials from the Chinese team inspected renowned ancient buildings at the Mandalay Royal Palace, Mahamuni Buddha Image, ancient Amarapura city and ancient Inwa city to evaluate damage to these buildings. They also held discussions related to these buildings with Myanmar officials over preservation of Myanmar cultural heritage.
At the discussions, both sides exchanged views on emergency renovation of damaged heritages, repair processes and long-term plans.
The cultural heritage preservation team from China comprises experts from National Cultural Heritage Administration, Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Heritage Administration, Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage, Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics Protection and Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Engineering Company.
Those experts from the team have experienced the renovation process of ancient buildings including Thatbyinnyu Pagoda in Bagan. — ASH/TTA
