Confiscated drugs worth US$ 43 million incinerated in Mandalay

A ceremony to incinerate the confiscated drugs worth more than Ks. 63 billion which is equivalent to US$ 43 million took place at Shwe Mann Taung golf resort in Mandalay this morning.

The ceremony, the ninth of its kind was held to mark the 32nd International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. At first, Mandalay Regional Chief Minister Dr. Zaw Myint Maung gave an opening speech and Chairman of Mandalay Region Committee for Drug Abuse Control Col Kyaw Kyaw Min read out the message sent by Chairman of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Kyaw Swe.

Next, concerned officials presented prize winning students in the painting, cartoon, poster and computer painting contests to celebrate the 32nd International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Afterwards, a documentary video about activities carried out the CCDAC was shown and those present took an opportunity to pose for a group photo with award winning students.

The chief minister and two students from Education College destroyed the seized drugs by pressing a button and those present viewed round the booths.—Tin Maung (Mandalay Sub-Printing House)
