COVID-19 cases surpass 300 in Sri Lanka

The number of positive COVID-19 patients rose to 304 in Sri Lanka on Monday after 33 new patients were detected, the government Information Department said in a statement here.

Out of the total detected from across the country to date, 98 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital while 199 are under observation in designated hospitals.

Seven deaths have been reported from the virus, the Health Ministry said.

The majority of the new patients detected on Monday were from Bandaranayake Road, located in Sri Lanka's capital Colombo, which was declared an isolated area after a female who returned from overseas tested positive for the virus on April 15, police said.

Residents in this area were urged to self quarantine in their homes since April 15.

Colombo district along with three other districts have been declared as high risk zones by authorities. A countrywide curfew was imposed on March 20.
