3 January

The death toll from Monday's gas explosion at a building in central Russia has topped 30.

The 10-story apartment building in the city of Magnitogorsk was partially destroyed in the blast.

Russia's ministry of emergency situations says 33 people, including children, have been confirmed dead and 10 others are still unaccounted for.

Search efforts have been continuing through the night despite freezing conditions of minus 15 degrees Celsius.

On Tuesday, a search team rescued an 11-month-old boy from under the rubble.

The health ministry says the baby has been reunited with his mother, who was also rescued. It adds he is being treated at a hospital in Moscow, and is in stable condition.
