Union Minister for Education Dr. Myo Thein Gyi met the rector, the pro-rector, faculty members and students of Technological University (Maubin) yesterday at its convocation hall.
Rector Dr. Kyawt Khin reported on its structure, academic matters and current programs.
In response, the Union Minister said the meeting is to explain the education reforms and the work of the Rectors Committee and solve the problems of universities through collective efforts. All the activities of the Education Ministry can be read on its website: www.moe.gov.mm, he said.
The Union Minister said the ministry has been implementing the national strategic plan (2016-2021) in accord with the schedule.
The work of promoting human resources that meet the prevailing situation and that is included in the sustainable and harmonious development plan of the country is concerned with the education sector, he said.
The higher qualification of teachers is a requisite for the better education, he said, adding that refresher courses must be conducted for English proficiency and ITC skills. Teachers must do research work by themselves, read a lot and have the qualification to contribute in general knowledge journals, he noted. Only then will the teachers be able to utilize the approach that is more realistic.
The Union Minister also suggested to conduct capacity building courses for the office staff to improve their office letter writing and IT skills.
The ministry has granted the international scholarship awards to the employees in accordance with the rules and regulations, he added.
He stressed the need to conduct exhibition of science and job fairs at universities and schools in cooperation with business entrepreneurs, adding that it is required to uplift the literature, culture, arts and traditional customs of the ethnic people of the country.
The Union Minister also instructed the universities to produce qualified youths by conducting the graduate courses based on development, economy, transportation and interest of the local regions.
Afterwards, attendees at the meeting discussed the matters related to assigning more demonstrators to the universities, transfer of duty, establishing sports and gymnasiums and obstacles faced by students.
Afterwards, the Union Minister and officials went to the Maubin University and government technical schools, and met with rectors, pro-rectors, faculty members, students and staff.
Similarly, the Union Minister and party visited the University of Computer Studies (Hinthada), government technical high schools, Technological University (Hinthada) on 2 March, and met with rectors, pro-rectors, faculty members and students.— MNA
