Phyabon, 1 February

 

A fire broke out at “Sandarmin” hostel on Maydawi road in Phyabon Township, Phyabon District, Ayeyarwady Region at 2:45 am today.

 

The fire was believed to have started from an overheated wall socket in the upstairs of the hostel when U Maung Than, the manager of the hostel, fell asleep. The blaze spread to another two buildings in the same compound- a two-storey building measuring 23 feet by 18 feet and a kitchen measuring 18 feet by 18 feet, ravaging a total of three buildings.

 

The blaze was put out by firefighters, police members, departmental personnel and local residents using one water truck, four fire engines.

 

It is learnt that five teachers and 39 teachers were living in the destroyed hostel but no one was injured in the incident.

 

It is learnt that action is being taken against U Maung Than, 56 for his negligence by Phyabon Myoma Police Station.— Thu Zar New (Phyabon)
