Global coronavirus cases top 3.5 million

Data compiled by a US university show the number of confirmed coronavirus infections has surpassed 3.5 million worldwide.

 

Johns Hopkins University says the total number of cases globally hit 3,552,985 as of 18:00 UTC on Monday.

 

The United States topped the list with 1,170,719 cases; followed by Spain with 217,466; Italy with 211,938; Britain with 191,827; and France with 168,969.

 

The global death toll came to 249,079.

The US had the most fatalities at 68,046; followed by Italy at 29,079; Britain at 28,734; Spain at 25,264; and France at 24,864 .
