India-funded suspension bridge opens to traffic in Tiddim

A new suspension bridge crossing the Manipur River was opened to traffic on Tuesday. The opening ceremony of the bridge built with financial assistance from India was held at the construction site Tiddim Township, Chin State.

First of all, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Saurabh Kumar and party were welcomed by local people. Then the Deputy Director-General of the Border Areas and National Races Development Department U Tin Win and the Indian ambassador delivered addresses. On behalf of local people, a village-tract administrator spoke words of thanks.

Next, the deputy director-general, the Indian ambassador, the Chin State lawmaker and the township administrator formally opened the bridge by cutting a ceremonial ribbon. Those present took an opportunity to pose for a group photo and sprinkled scented water on a stone plaque of the bridge.

The suspension bridge is 30 ft. long, 12 ft. wide and was built at a cost of Ks. 510 million financed by the government of India.—IPRD
