THE consecration ceremony and Buddha Pujaniya festival of Kyaukka Shweguni Pagoda, located in Monywa Township, Sagaing Region, will be held on the 8th waning of Kason, 1387 ME, according to U Htun Aye, a member of the Kyaukka Shweguni Pagoda Board of Trustees.
The Buddha Pujaniya festival of Kyaukka Shweguni Pagoda was celebrated every year until 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, from around 2021 onwards, the traditional festival procession has not been held. Instead, the festival is now marked annually with the consecration ceremony and offering of meals to monks at dawn.
U Htun Aye stated, “On the 8th waning of Kason, at dawn, twelve eminent monks will be invited, and meals will be offered to them. The consecration ceremony will also be held at the pagoda”.
The Kyaukka Shweguni Pagoda and the sacred image are open for people to worship daily from 6 am to 11 am. On sabbath days and days of religious significance, the pagoda remains open from 6 am to 4 pm. Devotees can make merit by gilding the sacred image with gold foils, which are sold at K2,000 per leaf by the Board of Trustees. — ASH/MKKS
