Local people being dosed with elephantiasis medicines in Kangyidaunt Tsp

As part of efforts to prevent elephantiasis, officials from Kangyidaunt Township Public Health Department in collaboration with ward and village administrators and members of NGOs were making a domiciliary visit to dose a total of 171,000 residents with elephantiasis medicines starting from January 22 evening in Kangyidaunt, Pathein District, Ayeyarwady Region.


In the dosing campaign, health staff imparted knowledge about elephantiasis, benefits which would be accrued from taking preventive medicines to the local people, saying that people with chronic illness, infants under 2 years old and pregnant women would be exclusive. The teams gave local people handouts bearing tips over prevention of the disease.


Altogether 811 medical teams plan to distribute the medicines to 171,000 people in 7 wards and 388 villages from January 22 to 31. Up to 23 January, the campaign covered 50 percent of the population in the Township, according to the Township PHD.— Nan Htike ( KGD)
