ACCORDING to the Buildings Restoration, Utilization and New Buildings Construction Supervision Committee, repair and reconstruction works will be carried out in earthquake-affected areas across various regions damaged by the strong earthquake in Mandalay. These efforts will be implemented using a multi-pronged approach.

This approach includes assigning the original construction companies to undertake the repair works, engaging companies currently implementing construction projects under relevant ministries, and also involving companies endorsed by three professional engineering associations.

Additionally, the Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee and the respective state and regional governments will be responsible for repairing staff housing in the affected areas. In this regard, teams of professionals, including urban engineers officially recognized by the Ministry of Construction, will be formed and tasked with calculating cost estimates. These estimates will then be submitted through the relevant repair and reconstruction committees to the Buildings Restoration, Utilization and New Buildings Construction Supervision Committee.

Following the submissions, the Construction Work Verification Committee under the Ministry of Construction will verify the proposed costs by conducting site inspections and reviewing photographic records to ensure accuracy and alignment with the scope of the work. — ASH/KNN
