According to the Ministry of Education, the centenary celebration of Mandalay University will be held this coming October.
The celebration aims to continue enhancing academic fields that will contribute to the country’s political, economic, and social development, to foster socioeconomic growth based on education, to nurture the creativity and innovation skills of undergraduate and postgraduate students, and to set out a vision for the next 100 years of Mandalay University.
Mandalay University will mark its 100th anniversary on 4 July 2025. The main building of Mandalay University, which was severely damaged by the recent earthquake in Mandalay, had already reached its centenary on 22 December 2024.
What later became Mandalay University began as Mandalay Intermediate College, which first opened on 4 July 1925. In June 1948, it was upgraded from an intermediate college to a university college, authorized to offer bachelor’s degree courses in arts and sciences. Mandalay University became a fully-fledged independent university on 1 June 1958. — ASH/KNN
