MANDALAY devotees visited pagodas across the city, took moral precepts and released fish to welcome the Myanmar New Year yesterday. People also donated meals in the spirit of Satuditha (charity feast).

At the Mahamuni Buddha Image, the sacred image was displayed to devotees via an LED board, allowing pilgrims to offer homage with flowers and offerings. Religious ceremonies also took place at other prominent religious sites, including Sutaungpyae Pagoda on Mandalay Hill and Maha Thakyamarazein Pagoda near the foot of the hill.

At Maha Atulawaiyan Monastery, officials led early-morning offerings at 5 am, donating breakfast alms to 108 monks, listening to sermons and offering meals. Elderly citizens aged 90 and above were also honoured. A Dhamma sermon was held at the monastery later that evening.

Throughout the evening, neighbourhoods, streets and Dhamma halls welcomed senior monks who preached protective discourses and moral teachings. — Min Htet Aung(Mandalay Sub-printing House)/KZL
