EXERCISING authority under Section 6 (e) of the 2018 Forest Law, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmen­tal Conservation (MNREC) declared 6,383 acres in Thazi Township, Meiktila District, Mandalay Region, as the “Wahywet Protected Public Forest” through Order 43/2025 on 30 April 2025.

 

The designation by MN­REC aims to preserve biodi­versity, regulate climate, con­serve tropical forests, reduce temperature, and maintain a green environment by estab­lishing reserved forests and protected public forests.

 

The designation of the Wahywet Protected Public Forest aims to safeguard sig­nificant tree species, protect endangered wildlife and oth­er fauna, and provide benefits such as increased forest cover, improved soil quality, ground­water conservation, and a more favourable climate. — MNA/MKKS
