To develop the love for literature and books in rural youth and students mobile library activities were carried out at Thittaw Basic Education Primary school in Ottwin Township, Toungoo District, Hinn Gout Pin High School and two schools in Htantabin Township yesterday morning.

Mobile Library service is the collaboration between the Information and Public Relations Department and Shanti Volunteer Association (SVA) of Japan. The service will include activities such as physical exercises, storytelling with comic books, plays on board, paper puppet shows and reading comic book. They will also let each school take out 100 books monthly.

The service had already been carried out in Toungoo and Yedashe townships on Monday, and will be carried out in two basic education schools in Pyu and Kyaukgyi townships.

“Mobile Library moves around in Tri-motorcycle. Each school can take out 100 books every month. By telling stories with pictures, showing board and paper puppet plays, students will develop reading skill and habit of reading. Teachers can also use the books as teaching materials. The service can result in students being able to retell stories and wanting to take out and read the books” said Director of SVA Ms.Akinakahara.

Information and Public Relations Department and SVA signed Memorandum of Understanding in 2014 for production of books for children, improvement of reading skill and child literacy. Now the service is available in 14 townships in Pyay and Thayawady districts, Bago Region. In 2019-2020 Academic Year it will be available 15 selected schools in 6 townships in Toungoo District, form June.—MNA (Translated by Alphonsus)
