Union Minister for Electricity and Energy U Win Khaing inspected Paunglaung hydropower plant in Zeyathiri Township of Nay Pyi Taw Council Area yesterday morning together with Deputy Minister U Khin Maung Win and other departmental personnels.
The head of the power plant firstly explained power production and water storage of Upper Paunglaung, Paunglaung underground type power plant and Nan Cho power plant at the meeting hall and the Deputy Minister and the Managing Director of Electric Power Generation Enterprise coordinated the meeting.
Then, the Union Minister discussed the preparations to meet the country’s power needs incoming summer like this year, generated power for people during Stay-at-home period amid COVID-19 pandemic, plans to meet the power demand in future, electrification to about 10 villages per day under National Electrification Project, the increase of Electrification Ratio from 55pc to over 56.68pc in 2020-2021 and power generation under the management of National Control Centre (NCC).
The Union Minister continued saying that the ministry is currently generating 65,000 megawatt hours of electricity per day from 48,000 megawatt hours of electricity per day in 2016.
The 28 hydropower plants are generating 3,225 megawatts of electricity with an average capacity of 2,600 megawatts per day (36%).
Moreover, the further four hydropower projects -the 51-megawatt Upper Kyaing Taung project (2021-2022), the 280-megawatt Upper Yeywa project (2022-2023), the 152-megawatt Middle Paunglaung project (2024-2025) and the 111-megawatt Tha Htay project (2025-2026) are being implemented.
He also talked about plans to construct Floating Solar Power Plant to generate power with Hydro-Solar Hybrid soon and the efforts of the ministry to meet the power demand by implementing Generation Mix of hydropower plants, solar-power plant, natural gas and thermal power plant and LNG power plants.
Then, the Union Minister and party inspected the power generation processes, and water flows into dams, water storage and a designated place to construct Floating Solar Power Plant.
