A farewell ceremony to honour the International Medical Corps (IMC) emergency medical team, which is set to depart after completing emergency healthcare operations, was held yesterday morning at the Ministry of Health’s conference hall.

Deputy Minister for Health Dr Aye Tun attended the ceremony on behalf of the Chairperson of the Health Sub-Committee of the National Committee for Natural Disaster Management.

At the start of the ceremony, attendees observed a one-minute silence in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the Mandalay earthquake.

Following this, Deputy Minister Dr Aye Tun delivered a farewell address, noting that, during the national emergency caused by the Mandalay earthquake, 28 medical teams from 17 countries came to assist, including the IMC team. The IMC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, had set up a temporary emergency clinic at the 300-bed Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital, operating from 19 April to 18 May, for a month. During this period, the clinic provided healthcare services to over 1,400 outpatients. Additionally, the IMC donated medicines, medical supplies, temporary tents, and building materials, for which the Ministry expressed profound gratitude. The Deputy Minister also emphasised that the Ministry of Health is continuing rehabilitation efforts in line with the guidance of the government.

Subsequently, Mr Syed Yasir Ahmed, the leader of the IMC team, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health, the management and staff of the 300-bed Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital for their cooperation, which ensured the smooth operation of the medical activities.

Afterwards, on behalf of the Chairperson of the Health Sub-Committee of the National Disaster Management Committee, the Deputy Minister presented the IMC team with a certificate of appreciation and commemorative gifts.
