MoI Union Minister addresses media literacy, national security at Nursing University

Union Minister for Informa­tion U Maung Maung Ohn de­livered a lecture on combating media misinformation and the media’s role in nation-building at the University of Nursing (Yangon) yesterday.

 

Faculty members and students from medical uni­versities, midwife schools, and other healthcare institutions attended the talk.

 

The session commenced with a documentary video highlighting strategies to counter media misinformation and the significance of media in national development.

 

During his address, the Union minister stressed the importance of critically eval­uating information shared on social media platforms to distinguish between truth and falsehood, especially given the rampant spread of misinfor­mation in today’s digital era. He highlighted the govern­ment’s initiatives in tackling various challenges and cau­tioned against the potential consequences of misleading information, which could lead to misguided decision-making.

 

Furthermore, he advised the audience to critically ex­amine rumours and false infor­mation related to the People’s Military Service Law, empha­sizing its crucial role in safe­guarding the nation and un­derscoring the responsibility of every citizen in this regard.

 

As part of the event, lucky draws were held, with five di­rect-to-home satellite dishes and 100 MRTV set-top boxes awarded to participating stu­dents. A total of 520 students attended the talk. — MNA/NT
