“Now, the sale of the commodity is cool in the market. The Monywa depot is relying upon India and China demand. At present, India, which suffers from the serious outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and is ranked the world third, is less buying the beans in this period. So, the pigeon peas and black beans are not selling well these days. The prices of the bean have also dropped these days. The price of chickpea was K27,000-K28,000 per basket in February and March. At present, the price of chickpea is K23,500-K24,000 per basket. The price of chickpea dropped to K3,000-K3,500 per basket. The prices of a variety of beans have also declined. The coronavirus has adversely affected the businessmen,” he said.
“The price of black bean has not significantly dropped. But there is low stock in the market. The price of sesame is rising in the market and has reached a minimum of K48,000 per basket. The production of the sesame has also declined. This is the reason why the price of sesame has increased. During the pandemic period, the production has dropped and so the prices of the products are rising,” said U Thein Oo, a trader at Monywa Depot.
