UNION Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Tin Oo Lwin, accompanied by officials from the Department of Reli­gious Affairs, visited several historic religious structures in Mandalay Region that were damaged by a recent earth­quake.

 

On the morning of the vis­it, he inspected the damage to the Nanmyo Sutaungpyae Pagoda, the Mandalay Palace walls and the Mahamuni Bud­dha Image. They also observed repair work to broken bricks of many other religious buildings and restoration of tilted spires and wooden tiered roofs. The works are carried out by Tat­madaw personnel, Myanmar Police Force members and staff from the Department of Archaeology and the National Museum. The inspection in­cluded other affected religious landmarks such as Ananda Pa­goda, Phayani Pagoda, Ayeik Mahwet Pagoda and the dam­aged convocation hall of the State Pariyatti Sasana Univer­sity in Mandalay. The Union Minister provided instructions for the proper implementation of necessary restoration and maintenance tasks.

 

Afterwards, the Union minister paid respects to the Rector Sayadaw of the State Pariyatti Sasana University (Mandalay) and donated of­ferings. — MNA/KZL
