THE handover ceremony for prefabricated temporary school buildings donated by ASEAN member countries through the AHA Centre for earthquake-af­fected areas in Mandalay Re­gion was held yesterday morn­ing at the meeting hall of the Department of Disaster Man­agement under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement (MSWRR).

 

Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettle­ment Dr Soe Win, Deputy Minis­ter for Education Dr Zaw Myint, Deputy Minister for MSWRR U Soe Kyi, Nay Pyi Taw Council Member U Myint Soe, perma­nent secretaries, directors-gen­eral, deputy directors-general, Executive Director of AHA Centre Mr Lee Yam Ming, and representatives from the ASE­AN Secretariat and the AHA Centre attended the ceremony.

 

To ensure that schools re­open in time during the first week of June for the 2025–2026 academic year and to allow chil­dren to continue their education safely and comfortably, 20 pre­fabricated school classrooms donated by ASEAN countries will be constructed — five each in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region and Shan State.

 

At the ceremony, the Union minister delivered a speech, and AHA Centre Executive Direc­tor Mr Lee Yam Ming officially handed over the prefabricated schools to Deputy Minister for Education Dr Zaw Myint and Nay Pyi Taw Council Member U Myint Soe. Union Minister Dr Soe Win also presented a certificate of appreciation to the AHA Centre. — MNA/KZL
