THE Ministry of Transport and Communications held a com­memorative ceremony marking the 148th Anniversary of Myan­ma Railways at 9 am yesterday at Meeting Hall 5 of the ministry.

 

SAC Member Deputy Prime Minister MoTC Union Minister General Mya Tun Oo delivered a speech in honour of the anniver­sary, followed by a presentation by the Managing Director of My­anmar Railways, who detailed the department’s accomplish­ments during the 2024-2025 fi­nancial year. A commemorative video marking the 148th anni­versary was also screened at the event.

 

Afterwards, the Union min­ister, deputy ministers, and the managing director presented honourary awards. These were given to railways, factories, and hospitals across the country for outstanding performance; to staff members who fulfilled their duties with exceptional commit­ment and to employees who took swift and effective action during natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes to ensure the safety of passengers and restore rail services promptly. Awards were also given to staff who rescued colleagues trapped in damaged staff housing during the earthquake. The event con­cluded with a group photo. — MNA/KZL
