A powerful earthquake caused severe structural collapses, including building No 3369, Nyanna Theikdhi Ward, Zabuthiri Township on 28 March 2025.
A 62-year-old retired Branch Clerk from the Ministry of Health named Daw San San Htwe, who is the mother-in-law of a Ministry of Foreign Affairs staff member was trapped inside.
Under the close supervision of Director-General U Myat Thu, a rescue team led by Yangon Region Fire Services Department Head U Min San Aye carried out the operation. The rescue began at approximately 8:15 am and firefighters successfully extracted her alive by 9:15 am.
Firefighters from the Fire Services Department collaborated with both local and international search and rescue teams. As of today, they have rescued a total of 649 people – 334 men and 315 women. They have recovered 501 deceased individuals including 245 men and 256 women. — MNA/KZL
