THE Ministry of Health is hosting the 53rd Myanmar Health Research Congress at the Department of Medical Research (DMR) Head Office in Yangon, Dagon Township from 20 to 24 January.

On the first day, researchers presented papers on various health studies including body mass index and cardiovascular data among middle-aged individuals in Yangon, physical fitness for Myanmar adults and nutritional assessments for elderly patients. Other studies covered severe Escherichia coli strains in blood poisoning cases and genetic analysis of blood cancer patients at North Okkalapa Teaching Hospital. Attendees engaged in discussions following each presentation.

In the afternoon, a Letter of Intent (LoI) was signed between the Department of Medical Research and Korea’s International Tuberculosis Research Centre by Professor Dr Aye Aye Khin and Dr Sundae Song.

A Myanmar-Korea joint symposium for 2025 on innovative diagnostic and treatment approaches for tuberculosis, hepatitis B, and malaria was also held. Experts discussed Myanmar’s experiences in infectious disease control, rapid diagnostic tests for tuberculosis, genetic changes in hepatitis B strains, and new strategies to combat drug-resistant malaria. The event concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session with specialists and researchers. — MNA/KZL
