Labour affairs experts from Myanmar and Thailand held meetings on 18 and 19 January at the Thingaha Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw, with a total of 35 delegates from two sides in attendance.

 

U Win Shein, Director-General of Department of Labour, Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, led the 17 Myanmar labour affairs delegation members, who are members of Foreign Employment Supervisory Committee consisting of representatives from Consular and Legal Affairs Department, National Registration and Citizenship Department, Special Branch, Anti-Human Trafficking Police Force, Myanmar Embassy attaché and a labour Attache.

 

18 delegation members from Thailand were led by Mrs. Petcharat Sinauy, Director-General of Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour.

 

During the meeting, they discussed matters related to MoU on officially sending Myanmar workers to Thailand, unofficial arrival of Myanmar workers in Thailand, the rights and provision of care for Myanmar workers arriving in Thailand, Myanmar marine workers working at marine enterprises in Thailand, and sending Myanmar marine workers to Thailand through MoU agreement. They also discussed matters related to investigating and setting costs for the process of sending Myanmar marine workers to Thailand through MoU, amendment of employment agreement signed by Myanmar and Thailand which included investigation of crime records of the migrant workers, and preparation for selecting Myanmar workers by Thailand employers.—MNA (Translated by Kyaw Zin Tun)
