Myanmar’s domestic tourism significantly boomed in 2024, attracting up to 10 million homegrown visitors, according to the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism un­der the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

 

“Despite the drop in international traveller arrivals, domestic tourism significantly grew in 2024. Before the COVID pandemic, the number of do­mestic travellers was estimated at over five million. Domestic travellers dou­bled to nearly 11 milltion. Locals mostly visit Shan State, Yangon, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw, Kyaiktiyo, Hpa-an and Bago. More visitors are expected to come to Shwesettaw, Magway, in the upcoming months,” said the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism official.
