STATE Administration Council Secretary General Aung Lin Dwe attended the opening ceremony of Thanlwin Bridge (Takaw) at milepost 284/0 on the Meiktila-Kengtung-Tachilek Union Highway in Kunhing Township of Shan State (South) yesterday.

On arrival at the event, the relevant officials and locals warmly welcomed General Aung Lin Dwe and the party.

After the ceremonial procedures, Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant presented the gift to the General marking the opening ceremony of the bridge.

Then, the General posed for documentary photos together with the attendees and inspected the newly constructed bridge.

The old Thanlwin Bridge (Takaw) was built in 1965 and opened in 1974. It is now over 54 years old. As the capacity of the bridge declined, the Bridge Construction Task Force 12 of the Bridges Department built a new bridge about 70 feet upstream of the old bridge in April 2018.

The new Thanlwin Bridge (Takaw) is constructed with Steel Box Girder and RCC Slab for the upper structure and the bridge approach is a kind of PC Girder, RC Girder and RCC Slab.

The bridge is 1,151 feet long, two-lane bridge, with a load capacity of 60 tonnes. The waterway clearance of the bridge is 360 feet in width and 35 feet and nine inches in height.

The new Thanlwin (Takaw) is constructed on Asia Highway 2 (AH 2) Meiktila-Taunggyi-Kengtung-Tachilek Road, which is vital to access to China, Laos and Thailand. Moreover, the completion can bring development to the border trade sector and promote the socioeconomic status of local ethnic people. — MNA/KTZH
