The Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation continues to combat illegal logging through a variety of initiatives, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS), in collaboration with the public.
According to reports from the Forest Departments in Nay Pyi Taw, and across various states and regions, a total of 59.13 tons of illegal timber were seized between 28 April and 4 May. The confiscated timber included 5.80 tons of teak, 2.87 tons of hardwood, and 50.45 tons of other timber types.
In a separate operation from 5 to 11 May, authorities seized an additional 33.53 tons of timber, comprising 7.53 tons of illegal teak, 2.07 tons of hardwood, and 23.93 tons of other varieties. During this period, three vehicles and machines used in the illegal logging operations were also confiscated, and 12 individuals were arrested in connection with the cases.— MNA
