WORK to be done to ensure the long-term stability of the Kyaukthitta Pagoda in Kyaukse, which was tilted by the earthquake, was discussed at the meeting on 21 April held on the platform of the Shwemotehtaw Pagoda.
It was attended by Advocate-General Lt-Gen Myo Thant Naing, Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung, Minister for Security and Border Affairs, Minister of Transport, Kyaukse District Commander, engineers of the Federation of Myanmar Engineer Societies, District and Township administrators, officials and town elders.
The Kyaukthitta Pagoda, a landmark of Kyaukse, was damaged by the Mandalay earthquake and is facing the possibility of falling. The efforts to preserve the original location require technical and financial assistance.
On 23 April, eight donors donated K 29 million, which was accepted by the Advocate-General, and certificates of appreciation were presented to them, it wrote on social media.
“It is known that the historic Kyaukthitta Pagoda, which is 80 per cent in ruins, will not be allowed to be demolished. I am happy to learn that it will be restored after some evacuations,” said a local.
After inspecting the pagoda on 15 April, Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing instructed to document the damage by drones, to avoid demolition, and to use high-quality concrete at the base to protect the people living below. — Htet Oo Maung/ ZN
