A ceremony to open a plastic basket weaving course, run by the Township Rural Development Department, was held in the village of Yelar Lay in Pakokku township, Magway region this morning.
First, U Tint Wai, head of pakokku District Rural Development Department explained the aim of the course, followed by a speech by Pakokku Township Administrator U Myint Saung. Then, course teacher Daw Hla Sint from Ohn Daw village detailed techniques of plastic basket making. Course teachers Daw Hla Sint and Daw Hla Hla Htwe will teach 20 trainees about making plastic basket practically and theoretically from 4th to 18th December.
Rural Development Department has been organizing vocational courses since 2015-2016 fiscal year in order to narrow the gap between urban and rural areas, to help local people set up their own businesses to generate income to make a living, to produce human resources, to reduce poverty in rural areas.
Pakokku, Yesagyo, Myaing, Pauk and Seik Phyu township offices under the supervision of Pakkoku District Rural Development Department organized 60 vocational courses in 15 categories during four years from 2015-2016 fiscal year to 2018, with a total of 1275 trainees.
According to Pakokku District Development Department, it plans to open 14 vocational courses in seven categories in 2019, setting a target of 315 trainees in total.—Salai Ko Ki Translated by Aung Zaw Lin
