Yangon, 6 Frbruary
The price of local pearl increased by about 20 percent during five-year according to Zebutun Pearl and Jewellery Shop from Bogyoke market of Yangon Region.
There are two kinds of pearl—cultured pearl and natural pearl in Myanmar. A state-owned firm and private companies produce gold and silver pearls, of which golden pearls are sought-after in aboard according to the pearl enterprises.
Myanmar pearls were in high demand not only in local market but also in international market where China is in prime customer. Among them gem merchants are increasingly purchasing a large volume for high quality local pearls at a high price. Despite the higher production, the value of the pearls sold has been sliding. The current price of pearl is ranging from K 1,000 to K 10,000 per one yati. –Kyaw San Myint (IPRD)
