Public awareness on establishing smoke free areas in Bagan

A public awareness discussion on establishing smoke free areas in Bagan was conducted at the Township General Administration Department in Mandalay Region yesterday.

 

On the occasion, U Khin Zaw, deputy commissioner clarified the purpose of the public awareness discussion, calling on meeting the goals of national health such as putting an end to smoking and drug abuse and reducing the production of tobacco.

 

Smoking adversely affects smokers and people around them so that no smoking areas have to be set. Arrangements are being made for the region to be free from smoking. 

 

Therefore, every national needs to cooperate with those engaged in the campaign.

 

 Dr. Than Sein, in his capacity as chairman of health foundation underlined the challenges in the controlling of Myanmar tobacco and tobacco products, adding that steps are being taken to designate smoke free areas in Pindaya and Inlay Lake in Shan State and Bagan in Madalay Region. 

 

Altogether 150 people including departmental personnel, chairman and members of health foundation, hotel and motel owners, restaurant owners, members of the committee for establishing smoke free area and community leaders were in attendance.
