At the invitation of the Russian Minister of Defence, Army General Sergey Kuzhugetovich Shoygu, and Russia-Myanmar Military Technological Cooperation Committee, the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, attended the opening ceremony of the 8th Moscow Conference on International Security in Moscow, Russia, yesterday.
The opening ceremony began with speeches by the Russian Defence Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, and Lieutenant General Carlos Loitey, the Military Adviser to the Department of Peacekeeping Operations Office of Military Affairs.
The first plenary session then commenced with the title ‘Security in Modern World: Regional and Global Factors and Trends’ and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing discussed under the topic ‘Military Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific Region and Prospective Regional Security”.
In his discussion, the Senior General said the Indo-Pacific Region was geographically crucial for global development and opportunities but faces complications concerning security and stability. He said the global interest in the Indo-Pacific Region rose in the 21st Century as it constituted countries that have the strongest military, economy, democracy and with some of the largest population such as China, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Indonesia.
The Senior General said the actions of some countries to dominate the Indo-Pacific Region via military strength has caused worries among the countries of the region. He said transporting crude oil and natural gases was the most important task for all countries and since it mainly passes through the Indian Ocean, the region has gained economic importance.
The Senior General said international cooperation has reduced piracy in the region to some extent but it still remained as a threat to marine transportation. He said human trafficking and illegal drug trade were still being prevalent in the region as transnational crime. He said these issues all created a complex threat in the Indo-Pacific Region.
The Senior General said implementing stability in the region and promoting good military cooperation would require setting rules based on the sovereignty, administrative unit and equality of all countries within the region.
Afterwards, the Senior General met separately with the Russian Defence Minister and discussed the process of the conference, promoting bilateral and military relations between Myanmar and Russia, and further cooperation.
On 23 April, the Senior General and Tatmadaw officials including Lt-Gen Min Naing of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army) visited the Patriot Park in Kubinka.
Lt-Col Tin Bhone Kyaw, who received his Doctor of Science from Russia and complied the book ‘Making Decisions in Air Traffic Control’, was invited as an aviation security expert to the conference on international security.
Similarly, Colonel Myo Kyaw Thu from the National Defence College was also invited to the conference to discuss under the title ‘“Color” Revolutions and “Hybrid” Warfare, General and Specific Features’, according to news released by the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services.—MNA
