During his goodwill trip to China yesterday, the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing was received by Chinese President Mr. Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing yesterday.
The Chinese President said Myanmar and China have had a deep relationship between both countries’ political parties, governments, public, and militaries, with the military relations having grown noticeably closer. He said Myanmar was facing a lot of external pressure but the years of efforts from various leaders have led to visible developments for the country. He said China had always supported Myanmar and will continue to do so. He said he would increase military cooperation between the two countries and strive to discover solutions to common problems together by implementing win-win tactics.
Senior General Min Aung Hlaing then said he believed the Belt and Road initiative from China would be successful. He said this project contained a host of beneficial projects for Myanmar and the Tatmadaw would readily cooperate on them as well. He said the majority of Myanmar citizens live on rural areas and improving their socioeconomic status would require developing the nation’s economy first. This was the reason why he requested support for developing Myanmar’s economic opportunities.
They then discussed bilateral military relations, implementing peace along the border, and the Tatmadaw’s contribution to internal peace.
Afterwards, the Senior General and entourage laid flower wreaths at the Martyrs’ monument in Tiananmen Square. They then visited a training school for the People’s Liberation Army and observed the simulated training center and experimental center of equipment support technology.
In the evening, the Senior General and entourage were treated to a dinner reception by General Wei Fenghe, Minister of National Defence and member of the Central Military Commission, at the National Guesthouse, according to information released by the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services. —MNA (Trans: Zaw Htet Oo)
