REINFORCEMENT works are continuing at the Inlay PhaungdawU Pagoda compound to address damage caused by the recent strong Mandalay earthquake. The ongoing projects include sheet pile reinforcement of the pagoda platform and concrete reinforcement of the main monastery’s supporting pillars.
Steel sheet piles are transported from the hotel zone jetty to the pagoda compound using large motorboats, and installation works have commenced from the northern side of the pagoda. Heavy machinery is used daily for this operation. Similarly, concrete is poured to reinforce the columns of the main monastery structure.
The renovation works of the pagoda platform and main monastery are accelerated with the collective efforts of engineers, Tatmadaw members, police members, fire brigade members and volunteer donors. The aim is to complete the project before the upcoming Thadingyut Buddha Pujaniya Festival.
Donations from across the country are flowing in to support these restoration works. As of today, a total of K170.7 million has been donated. Those who wish to contribute to this merit-making effort may contact PhaungdawU Pagoda Board of Trustee Chairman U Win Myint at 09 771497838. — Sai Elbel/ KZL
