State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi received Mr Ichiro Aisawa, Chairman of the Japan-Myanmar Parliamentary Friendship Association, at the Imperial Hotel where she was staying in Tokyo yesterday morning.

The meeting focused on promotion of bilateral relations and friendship between Myanmar and Japan, promotion of cooperation between the two parliaments, to assist in promoting bilateral economic cooperation including the Thilawa industrial zone, the status of plantation of cherry trees in Myanmar with the management of JMPFA to mark the friendly relations between Myanmar and Japan and future plans of the association in Myanmar.

The meeting was also attended by Union Minister U Kyaw Tint Swe, Deputy Minister U Set Aung, Myanmar Ambassador to Japan U Myint Thu and officials.

Then, the State Counsellor met with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, of Bhutan at the same venue. During the meeting, they discussed promotion of friendly relations and cooperation, development and conservation of culture and traditions and exchange of visits between the two countries.

The meeting was also attended by Union Minister U Kyaw Tint Swe, Deputy Minister U Set Aung, and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Soe Han. In the afternoon, the State Counsellor attended the enthronement ceremony of Japanese Emperor Naruhito, held at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

After the Emperor’s enthronement speech, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe offered congratulations in response to the emperor’s speech.

The ceremony was concluded with congratulations presented by the Japanese Prime Minister and cabinet members to Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako. In the evening, the State Counsellor attended a dinner hosted by the Emperor and Empress. They welcomed the heads of state, heads of governments and high-ranking delegations.

Later, the State Counsellor had conversations with members of the royal family and enjoyed dinner together with heads of state, heads of government and high-ranking delegations from 153 countries.
